Unmanned Coconut Harvesting

Problem

A recent MDPI study highlights the intense physical strain coconut harvesters endure: climbing tall, swaying trees with minimal safety gear very often leading to fatalities.

Solution

To address this concern, ICAR-CCARI and Goa University has partnered with IHFC and Parachute Kalpavriksha Foundation (MARICO) to develop an unmanned coconut harvesting device featuring a robotic arm and precision camera. The device can remotely locate and pluck coconuts, addressing labour shortages and safety risks.

Impact

This tech-forward CSR initiative is leading to the development of a solution that promotes safer, more efficient coconut harvesting.
